Caroni

Founded in 1918, Caroni was a distillery owned by the State of Trinidad and Tobago, a small West Indian island with a strong British accent. Until 1993, it operated at full capacity, producing the "heavy rums" typical of the English-speaking islands. The distillery produced bottles under various brand names, and more rarely under the Caroni brand for connoisseurs.
In 2002, the government of the small Caribbean state decided to close the distillery, leaving a huge stock preserved in numerous oak casks, much to the delight of enthusiasts.
In October 2008, the distillery still owned around 5,300 barrels of aged rum. But these coveted stocks are melting like snow in the sun, bought up by trading houses such as A.D. Rattray, Velier and Silver Seal...
Caroni rums on the market today are coveted rarities. Read less
