Nine Leaves is a tiny Japanese distillery based in the town of Otsu, in Shiga prefecture, created by Yoshiharu Takeuchi, a passionate enthusiast from a prestigious lineage in the automotive industry in the land of the rising sun. The distillery founder's wish was to create a product that would embody his thoughts and creativity, particularly inspired by the crafting of single malt.

Briefly the capital of Japan 1300 years ago, Otsu was chosen by Yoshiharu Takeuchi for the quality of the water available nearby. The plant is located on the shore of Lake Biwa, the country's largest lake. The sugar cane used for production comes from the tropical island of Okinawa. Muscovado, i.e. unrefined brown sugar, reaches the distillery.

The process begins with the fermentation of the muscovado before undergoing a double distillation that makes all the difference. The particularly complex second distillation requires great care to extract all the aromas.

Each bottle produced is personally numbered by Yoshiharu Takeuchi. Read less
