1731 Fine & Rare Spanish Caribbean XO 46° is a blend of rums from Cuba and the Dominican Republic . They were column distilled and aged for up to 8 years for the oldest.
Like all rums in the 1731 range, no additives have been added. Nor has the rum been cold-filtered, which preserves all the aromas.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is light and floral, with hints of rose and lychee that blacken and carbonate as they evaporate. Indeed, roasting is soon the order of the day, with a well-toasted, dry woodiness that develops a charcoal texture.
With aeration, the ethereal flights become much softer, as does the roasting. The latter simply deposits a few toasted nuts, sprinkled with sweet spices.
On the palate, the attack is pleasant and well-balanced, and the wood immediately offers its most delicious flavors. The American oak is full of vanilla and soft coconut flesh. Roasting and spices catch up with us in the mid-palate, for a slightly warmer phase.
The finish is light and roasted, with a touch of acidity at the very end.
"This rum represents a tradition that makes room for lightness of touch and aroma..."
