Named in honor of the year in which Dr. Siegert, the brand's founder, created the aromatic bitters, Angostura 1824 is an aged rum made from a blend of several rums aged in selected bourbon casks for at least twelve years. The cuvée is barrel-aged before being filtered and packaged by hand.
Perfect for tasting, Angostura 1824 won a gold medal at the 2009 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose of this rum is decidedly gourmand, from the first scents that escape. We have candied fruit and prunes. This greediness is quickly balanced by a sort of burnt rubber or metallic impression that makes you want to take a closer look and linger over this surprising alternation. Still in the spirit of contrast, we now have dry wood and fermentation notes, followed by a sort of spicy quince compote. Some surprising notes of tannic wine offset by a little tart cherry add complexity to this puzzling first nose.
Resting melts all this down a little, bringing together all the elements previously perceived. The result is a molasses that benefits from a variety of influences, always with a hint of metal or acidity to give it a kick.
The first taste is sweet, with bread forgotten under the grill, reminiscent of the mineral or metallic character of the brûlé that is very present on the nose. The rum then pours out a fresh fruit juice that takes us to an orchard of pears and quinces. This orchard then becomes much more exotic, with a finish of lychee and longan.
The finish is soft, vegetal and sweet, decidedly reminiscent of longan.
"This rum is surprising and very contrasting, and it's fun to deconstruct the blend that's been made..."

Very good rum. Balanced, light aromatic in the mouth. Top of the range from Angostura.

I knew Angostura 1919, which I like a lot, and I wanted to change to taste something else... well, this 1824 is an excellent discovery, and I'd say it's even better!

Le top du top des rhum de Trinidad....this is an absolutely fabulous rum. I first tasted this rum in Cuba and I'm still loyal to it.
