This barrel comes from the Saint-Aubin estate, in Bas-Armagnac. It is an unreduced single Cask (cask no. 642). The grape variety used is Ugni blanc.
We received it in mid-March 2023 in our Brussels boutique. Come and meet our team, who will be delighted to let you taste it. Bring an empty bottle so you can leave with 50, 70 or 100 cl.
You can also order on our website 70cl and come to Brussels later, in several months if you like. We also have a few recycled bottles, and we'll put the cognac in one of them waiting for you...
All directions to our store and opening hours are here.
Finally, while you're waiting to go to Brussels, you can order a 3cl sample for a snack.
Nico's tasting notes
On the nose, we're in the prime of Armagnac youth, with a distillate that's still slightly acidic, with a hint of sugar candy. It develops notes of pear and other white-fleshed fruits, and blows a breeze laden with white flowers.
Aeration removes the lighter, more volatile notes, giving way to a very mellow, tender, vanilla-like woodiness. This very round character matches our sugar candy, whose more acidic touches become more and more enveloping with time.
On the palate, the armagnac concentrates into a veritable syrup, building up a mellow texture thanks to generous, rich oak casks. White-fleshed fruits are joined by yellower, redder, more exotic ones, in a profile that's more roundly acidic than ever. The sweet oak fills in the spaces with touches of nougat and mastic, as if to perfect the integrity of this lovely eau-de-vie.
The finish is very gourmand, gently spicy and almost pastry-like.
"A fruity, colorful armagnac blanche, just caressed by a gourmet oak barrel..."
