Tasting notes from Thomas
The nose reveals a light smoke of smoked wood and hay. This is really the backdrop against which the profile develops. Honey comes in bits and pieces, followed by cooked oranges and apricots. Gradually, malt, caramel and sesame cookies emerge as important elements. Next, light farmhouse cream and leather are followed by cold stone and herbs (eucalyptus). Finally, a starchy, slightly saline touch (potato chips) brings a little more consistency to the whole.
The palate is smooth and sufficiently full-bodied. The rustic smoke is still present in the background (charcoal, hay, herbs), with leather and a mineral note (cold stone). Yet it is not without roundness. Chocolate cream, orange liqueur, malt and caramel offer this tenderness, while eucalyptus reinforces the freshness. All the aromas move forward together, intertwining without ever becoming unbalanced.
The finish is quite long, with orange liqueur, chocolate and, of course, smoke. Then, a hint of eucalyptus combines with green tea. A slight bitterness settles on the tongue.
"A very nice example of lightly peated whisky, both diversified andgourmand... "
