Conde De Cuba 15 Años is Conde de Cuba's oldest rum. The distillery in Cuba's Las Tunas province controls the entire production chain, from cane to bottling.
This " extra añejo " is made from cane honey eaux-de-vie at least 15 years old. The blend was created by the house's Maestra Ronera: Dianuris Rosabal Mediano.
It's a limited edition called Media Luna, after the variety of sugarcane endemic to the region. The bottle is C-shaped, like Cuba. In a way, it's also the shape of its island of origin.
Nico's tasting notes
On the nose, the fruit is rather pale and delicate, just beginning to open up in the light of day. It gradually warms up, releasing warmer notes of apricots and peaches in syrup.
Aeration sheds a little light on the oak, which brings softly brioche and even buttery notes. The wood is tender and bursting with sweet spices, while vanilla delicately caresses the nose.
The palate is very light and extremely fluid. For the first time, the rum takes hold with a few roasted hints, which quickly fade away in favor of full-bodied nuts. While cocoa and peanut come to mind, a soft woodiness adds its blondness.
The finish is gently spicy, with vanilla and a hint of coffee.
"A very soft and relatively light Cuban style, which seduces with its delicacy..."
