This 10-year-old Fijian rum has been selected by Australian independent bottler Dead Reckoning.
This cuvée is made from a blend of column-distilled and pot-still rums. These distillates account for 80% and 20% respectively.
The blend was aged for 10 years in a barrel that had contained Muscat for 40 years. Aging is entirely tropical, and the angels' share is 50%.
1240 bottles were bottled. No colorants or sugars were added to this cuvée, and there was no cold filtration.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is typical of a very expressive, fruity molasses rum, yet does not go to extremes of acidity or overripe fruit. Instead, there's a certain sweetness to the full-bodied yet velvety fruit, which envelops us lasciviously.
Aeration adds a little more liveliness, but doesn't extract us from the sweet languor that takes hold of us as we dip into the glass. A hint of copper emerges over time, but is quickly absorbed into pastry aromas.
On the palate, it's just like the nose, very fruity and rather sweet, but this time with a pastry note that comes to the fore. The coppery note seen on the nose is personified here by candied cherry stones, rum-soaked grapes and even a few plump prunes. The latter bring a certain roundness to the texture, which translates into a sweet sensation.
The finish is round and jammy, with some sweet spices that have crept into the copper pot.
"Lots of fullness and roundness for this rum with a strong character..."
