Dzama Ambré de Nosy-Bé Prestige is one of the first rums created by Lucien Fohine, founder of the Dzama brand.
Today, the distillery on the island of Nosy-Bé where the amber was originally produced has closed. However, the formula and the high alcohol content (52°) that sustain the aromas have not changed. This rum is now a blend of the 2 distilleries located furthest south on the island of Madagascar: Brickaville and Murundavia. These are located in dry regions dominated by spices (pepper and clove trees).
The oak casks used for ageing come from Strathisla, the Speyside distillery in Scotland which mainly produces Chivas Regal. The casks arrive in Madagascar full of whisky destined for the local market, which naturally influences the aromas of Dzama Ambré.
After ageing for 18 months, the Maître de Chai supervises the blending of the rum before bottling.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose of this light rum is rather delicate and needs a little air to begin to express itself. The alcohol unfurls notes of dried flowers, followed by very light, tangy fruit. With time, the register becomes more roasted, with hints of coffee and burnt wood.
On the palate, vanilla coils in the veins of caramelized wood. The rum retains its light allure, despite a pronounced roasted edge. It's the very sweetness that balances it all out and sustains the sweeter aromas.
The finish is sweet and vanilla.
