Dzama XV 15 ans is one of the oldest rums from the famous Madagascar brand. Its molasses rums are produced at its distillery in Dzamandzar (Hell-Ville), on the island of Nosy-Be. On leaving the distillation column, this rum is placed in oak casks, some of which are old whisky barrels.
15 years later, it has been bottled in this decanter, which comes with a luxury box.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose surprises us with a fresh, softly floral fragrance, like a breeze that carries away aromas of rose, lychee and delicate red fruit. Raspberry coulis is not far away, nor is strawberry sorbet or grenadine syrup.
Aeration gives us access to a slightly drier side, with a few wisps of straw. Then we encounter a lump of sugar, tart and slightly fruity, which begins to melt gently, eventually returning to its grenadine syrup state.
On the palate, rose immediately graces the taste buds, with great roundness and the support of lychee. A spicier edge and slight bitterness take us to geranium, which occupies the mid-palate for a good while. The roundness is measured, and the floral aromas, though soft, don't give an overly sweet impression.
The finish is very lightly woody and roasted, but above all it's delicious, like grenadine syrup.
"A surprising and unique profile, playing on rose, geranium and grenadine..."
