Foursquare Spiced Rum 37.5°: Description and customer reviews

This spiced rum from the Foursquare distillery is considered by many to be one of the world's finest.
It has the particularity of containing only spices: unlike all its counterparts, no sugar has been added! As a result, it is particularly dry, and the rum on which it is based comes through loud and clear during tasting.

You can drink this spiced rum neat or on the rocks, or use it to make a variety of cocktails. In the United States, where it is very popular, it is drunk with cola or ginger ale.

Foursquare Spiced Rhum won the gold medal at the Los Angeles Spirits Competition in 2014.

Nico's tasting notes

At first glance, the nose is more fruity than spicy. It's the orange that shows up first, accompanied by a little vanilla candy and a handful of tart red fruits. The citrus family is definitely well represented, in the form of candied, spicy peels. Indeed, it seems that these peels have been cooked in a syrup seasoned with pepper, cinnamon and ginger. It's these spices that gradually come to the fore, along with exotic wood bark this time.
Aeration confirms the fruity tendency of this spiced rum, and the handful of red fruits has made its mark, with a full basket of aromas now being released. The rum releases vegetal, even medicinal notes, with pine resin, honey and berries. The nose is light and fresh, a far cry from the sugar-laden spiced rums.

The palate entry is very light and smooth, this spiced ingredient giving taste but not necessarily power. It's a veritable infusion of spices (pepper and clove stand out) and exotic wood bark. There's also the sweetness of cocoa and caramel, as well as a vegetal side now expressed by blond tobacco. The ginger has gained momentum to explode before the finish.

The finish unfolds on orange, caramel and toasted oak. The lingering flavors almost make you forget that this is a spiced rum.

"This rum is complex enough to bring subtlety to a cocktail, but it might also suit a taster who likes fragrant, aromatic rums..."

Nose: Sweet spices. A slight smoky note (BBQ type) which is well integrated. There's also an aroma of vanilla.

Oily mouthfeel. This spicy wine is fairly light, with low to medium aromatic intensity. Notes of cinnamon and vanilla. What's striking is its slight iodine note. This is rather strange in a spicy wine, especially as it seems to break the intensity of the bouquet.

    Short vanilla and spice finish.

Not the best of spicys, but pleasant in the mouth and not too expensive.

    3/5 in the spicy category
