Hampden 2018 LROK The Younger 4 ans 47° 3 liters : Description and customer reviews

Hampden 2018 LROK The Younger is the second version of this vintage named "The Younger", it replaces the 2016 vintage. This rum is a fine example of the Hampden distillery's expertise.

Mark Light Rum Owen Kelly (LROK) is a Hampden classic. Its esters per hectoliter of pure alcohol range from 200 g to 400 g. This Mark in the wedderburn category has been produced since 1952.

To produce this rum, the fermentation process is very long, and only wild yeasts are used. Distillation then takes place in a double-twisted Caribbean pot still.
The rum is then aged in bourbon barrels in Jamaica's tropical climate. Deposited and bottled after 4 years of ageing (2018-2022), this rum has "suffered" from an angels' share of around 28%.

This rum contains 370.1 g/hlap esters, and a total of 1697.9 g/hlap congeners.

Nico's tasting notes

On the nose, the Hampden signature is unmistakable, with very ripe exotic fruits and, in particular, a typically tropical, heady jackfruit. There's also a hint of candied botanicals, like a very ripe cane caught in a layer of beeswax.

With aeration, the fruit becomes juicier and juicier, reminding us of a heavy pineapple with almost orange flesh. A few more pastry notes encourage this greediness, as orange peel and candied fruit take us into the flesh of a soft panettone tinged with bitter almond.

The palate is initially marked by a slight acidity that once again points in the direction of extremely ripe, even fermented, exotic fruits. The pastry side is a little harder on the palate than on the nose, taking the form of coppery, slightly roasted pits. After this rather striking attack, the fruit becomes rounder and the almonds follow.

The finish is highly aromatic, brimming with candied exotic fruit, with a hint of sage that develops into a long finish.

"A Hampden that asserts its funky identity while remaining very accessible..."
