HSE Finition Single Malt Rozelieures 2013 is part of the now famous Finitions du Monde series. With this collection, HSE introduces us to agricultural rums with a touch of another spirit.
For this edition, the French whisky distillery Rozelieures was chosen. Single malt casks from the "subtle" and "smoky" ranges were selected to complement the profile of this very old rum from Martinique.
The rum was distilled in November 2013, and spent 6 years in oak barrels. It was then finished for at least 8 months, to be bottled in February 2020, This edition is limited to 4100 bottles.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is immediately coated and intoxicated by the house's unique woodiness, with a little extra that will delight lovers of old oak. It's a harmonious, complex rum, with nuts melted in a veil of solvent, then drawing on banana, melon and a malty tenderness.
Aeration reveals even more concentration, the wood is open, lively and generous. It's important not to fall into the trap of over-serious or monolithic oak, but rather to be invited to an abundant party. The nuts are coated in a caramel in which salt-crystal butter has not been forgotten, feeding the greed of mature, fruity cane.
On the palate, we get a close-up look at this famous oak, with a sensual, lively feel. The wood fiber is glazed with spices and cocoa nibs. This is followed by a malty vanilla clearing that rounds out the freshness of the cane juice. The whisky has a strong presence on the midpalate, returning to bury itself in a fat, grainy woodiness.
The finish is greedy but elegant. It offers us a few slightly tannic red and black fruits.
"This whisky-cask finish is a great success. The HSE woodiness here is more gourmand than ever... "
In addition, here are the tasting notes from the cellar master: the nose opens with subtle notes of smoky cocoa mingled with citrus. The crisp palate reveals cereal aromas that evolve into cooked fruit and sweet spices. It finishes on fruity notes sprinkled with sweet spices.
