HSE Parcellaire #1 aged in wood is an AOC Martinique agricultural rum. It is the first parcel aged cuvée from the famous Martinique house.
As with the parcel white rum from which it is derived, this "Canne d'Or" cuvée (nickname given to the R570 cane variety) was distilled on June 10, 2016 in a copper column at the Simon distillery. The rum was then matured for over 12 months in selected 200-liter American oak barrels. It was finally bottled in January 2022.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose offers a big butterscotch sweetness, with the sensation of a soft, tender oak, with a fatty fiber like a brioche. The freshness of the cane and its herbaceous side provide a fine balance, which we appreciate as it gradually takes shape.
Aeration gives way to the cane, which reveals aromas of candied citrus peel, very fresh and fragrant. A touch of finely ground gray pepper stimulates the whole.
On the palate, wood and cane play on equal terms, and both move towards spicy, more precisely peppery, notes. The texture is round and even fatty, ensuring a nice chewiness and greediness. Ripe cane takes over on the midpalate, with sweet citrus and exotic fruit.
The finish is deliciously peppery, and the rum is as sticky and concentrated as ever.
"A fine showcase for a gourmet, mellow agricultural rum..."
