JM XO is a very old agricultural rum made at the foot of Mount Pelee that has been aged for a minimum of six years in oak barrels previously used for maturing bourbon. The aromatic concentration acquired during these long years makes it a perfect rum for tasting, preferably as a digestif.
JM XO won two gold medals in 2011 and 2012 at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.
Laurent's tasting note
Its colour is a warm gold tending to amber.
On the nose, it is well done and engaging. Vanilla, dried fruits (grapes and prunes) and butterscotch bring greediness. Woody (dry), citrus (orange zest), spices (pepper) and a touch of white flowers bring complexity and relief. The alcohol seems to be at the perfect level in this rum and further accentuates the impression of balance. After a little rest, tobacco notes appear.
On the palate, the attack is relatively soft (without being sweet), then the alcohol appears but without excess. Citrus fruits, dried fruits, wood and vanilla take centre stage for a palate less complex than the nose.
The finish is long and dominated by the wood, still dry and very slightly bitter. It still leaves a warm impression, although the cask takes up more and more space until it crowds out the other aromas, which were already struggling to make themselves felt on this finish.
