Magnifica Single Cask 2006 12 years is a superb traditional cachaça, distilled in a still. Made from 100% pure cane juice, it has been aged for an exceptionally long time. Indeed, in Brazil, cachaças are made to be consumed quickly, in caipirinha for example. This cachaça, on the other hand, is a true tasting spirit.
Distillation took place in February 2006, for bottling in January 2019. Aging took place in oak barrels, and the angels' share was very high, as only 94 bottles were racked. The degree of bottling (50%) is also exceptional, and rarely encountered in this category.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is immediately surprising in its concentration and somewhat wild, organic character. A powerfully aromatic cachaça is clearly at work, peppery, fermentative, full of overripe fruit and past aromas.
With aeration, the profile narrows to dried fruits such as apricot, peach and banana. The cane is perfectly at home in this mellow setting, its juice mingling with that of the fruit. A few spices then modestly cover the few notes of fermentation that try to escape.
The palate is a complex whole, entirely dedicated to cane juice in all its forms. Initially softly vegetal, the profile changes several times throughout the tasting. Dried apricots and peaches are also present, followed by slightly vegetal spices such as tonka bean.
The finish brings all these aromas together around a honeyed, very finely peppered cane.
"A very subtle, gourmet cane brandy..."
