An exceptional rum with a very inviting nose of ripe/rotten fruit, wood varnish, and motor oil. It should be left for at least 1 hour in the glass to enjoy all its qualities. Once in the mouth, the first thing it does is dry out the entire palate, then notes of banana and pineapple come through, leading to a very dark but delicate woodiness, and finally finishing with notes of varnish and very dark motor oil, very well balanced with a side that makes you want to come back. On the following sips, still very dry but softer, and a beautiful blend of spices, clove, pepper, green banana notes, and once again wood, varnish, and motor oil. A very well-integrated alcohol, ultimately a 58° feels like 49/50. For my rating, I can't give a value for money because it's out of category for me. But in terms of aromatic concentration and diversity, it's 19/20. Alcohol integration 18/20. Length in the mouth 20/20. In summary, a traditional English rum made from molasses distilled in Jamaican pot stills of impeccable and incomparable quality. Once again, Hampden has done a great job and Kill Devil has bottled it very well.
