Malteco Spices Rum 8 ans is a spiced rum from Panama aged 8 years in oak barrels. This combination of spices and long aging is very rare.
Nico's tasting notes
On the nose, you don't immediately get the impression of a spiced rum. Instead, toasty wood notes emerge, with the minerality of charcoal. The smoke from the toasting cask is still palpable, and the profile is very dark.
Aeration softens the rum slightly, giving it a chance to expand. Sweet spices awaken and begin to populate the aromatic landscape: vanilla, tonka, cinnamon, we enter the realm of the gourmand. Crème brûlée or crème caramel take hold, while the rum gains in thickness.
On the palate, aromas are balanced and the texture is very soft, rather sweet. The range of spices continues to grow richer on contact with the taste buds, and tonka bean asserts itself as the leader, rivaled by a peppery newcomer. Sweet fruit makes a colorful passage before rum settles in on a comfortable buttery, woody caramel.
The finish is sweet, with notes of tonka, ginger and cardamom.
