Nikka Coffey Malt is a single malt whisky distilled in a coffey still, a column still usually used to distill grain whisky.
An original whisky to discover!
Tasting notes from Thomas
The nose is clearly pastry. Here and there, we recognize pear tart, banana cake, semolina cake, cereal and vanilla. Dessert lovers (without excessive sugar) are sure to find something to their liking. Indeed, this nose stays true to its guideline, finding banana doughnuts, a caramelized finish, currants and a little sweet spice (nutmeg in mind).
The palate follows the same pattern as the nose. Under a banana cake cover, we discover milk caramel and vanilla. Semolina cake and hints of fresh corn are combined with rum raisins. The second half of the palate seems to carry a slight vegetal bitterness and spices (nutmeg, cardamom).
The finish is still caramelized, with apple cake, currants, cardamom and a cinnamon stick. The impression is sweet, but the cardamom remains fresh.
" A flattering whisky where pastry rightfully earns its place... "

More of a rum lover, this malt reconciles me with Whisky. Far from the peat, a rich, sunny palette. A wonderful discovery.
