Pixan 15 ans is a blend of traditional molasses rums.
Each of the rums has been distilled twice and aged for at least 15 years in American oak barrels that have previously contained bourbon.
Distillation, ageing, blending and bottling take place at the Mexican distillery Espíritus Del Norte, which specialises in the production of rum.
Nico's tasting note
The first nose is light and slightly spicy, with a bitterness of small pepper and juniper berries. Fruity, velvety notes follow quickly, like apricot jam on a rum baba. There is also a mixture of red fruits in coulis, as well as a ripe mango.
The aeration makes us switch to a resolutely fruity and sweet universe, which flirts with the register of confectionery. The apricot jam is still very present, it blends with aromas of strawberry, banana, blackberry, like in a milky fruit dessert.
The palate is round and sweet, with an attack on orange peel. The sweet spices bring some substance, we meet vanilla, cinnamon and a little nutmeg. The sweet caramel then takes hold of the palate, becoming more and more burnt with time. Sweetness is the order of the day throughout the tasting.
The finish is round, very slightly roasted, the light character of the rum comes out in the length with a slightly sparkling side.
"A very round and sweet rum, for gourmets who like to put their finger in the jam jar..."
