Nico's tasting notes
In brief: soft - caramel - raisins - light - melted woody - sweet - vanilla
On the nose, this is a sweet, pastry-like rum. The first aromas are of caramel and raisins, like an invitation to indulge. This is a light rum, where the dryness of toasted wood and nuts is tamed by well-rounded sugar and vanilla. These nuts then fall into the caramel and are caught in a vanilla nougatine.
Aeration won't fundamentally change the rum's profile, but its character may be a little more full-bodied and spicy. The woodiness will then be a little more straightforward, though still rounded in the corners. There's also a hint of candied orange zest.
On the palate, the attack starts very gently and rises with mastery to a melted, vanilla and caramelized woodiness that is very tasty. It's a sweet, gourmand palate that's unabashedly Latino in style. A few spices shake things up a bit and add a little liveliness, like the melted, benevolent pepper.
On the finish, a vanilla blossom pushes through the caramelized woody notes and continues to blossom, for a long time.
