Renegade Pre-Cask Dunfermline Pot 50°: Description and customer reviews

Renegade Pre-Cask Dunfermline Pot illustrates the special terroir of an old distillery that disappeared in 2004 during Hurricane Ivan. This white rum of pure cane juice comes from the Lacalome Red variety (B80.689), which is grown on "Anderson's Field", part of the terroir known locally as "Mango Land". The latter is located in the Saint Andrew mountains, on the north-east coast.

Renegade bottles its rums "Pre-Cask" (before ageing) farm by farm, terroir by terroir. This will also be the case for its aged rums, which are methodically separated in the cellars. The cane juice from the 2020 harvest has been fermented at a controlled temperature, then precisely distilled in a double-twisted Caribbean pot still.

Nico's tasting notes

On the nose, the rum overwhelms us with aromas of ripe cane, in the manner of a powerful, enveloping eau-de-vie. The cane fiber is soft and sweet, with an oily, citrus-tinged juice. The refreshing green herbaceousness makes the experience even more pleasurable.

Aeration gives us access to other layers of complexity, including intense, fermented cane juice. Other botanicals join the cane, mingling their juices, juices and resins. A good pinch of pepper also adds structure.

The palate is lively, with a spicy, spicy, almost mineral attack. Fresh cane juice sparkles on the palate, soon joined by black pepper. The mid-palate becomes softer, with the fiber and bark of the cane gently relaxing.

The finish is dominated by slightly iodized fermentation flavors, with aromatic and steamed vegetable accents that carry through to the long finish.

The difference with the Renegade Pre-Cask Dunfermline Columnis quite marked, as the latter shows a straighter, cleaner, fruitier nose, yet with the same touch of fermentation. On the palate, it is less spicy and seems less powerful. Like the pot still version, it relaxes on the mid-palate and offers a similar finish.
