Saint James Hors d'Âge 43°: Description and customer reviews

Saint James Hors d'Âge is an AOC agricultural rum from Martinique. It is a blend of vintages aged in small oak barrels.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose opens with generous fruit and wood. The tannins are extremely smooth, stretching out into dried fruit and even long, heady floral scarves. This is truly a very fragrant rum, with a character of elegant spices and wood grain mingled with fatty nuts.

Aeration summons up a little citrus acidity, taking us back to the freshness of sugarcane. The rhum agricole erodes the barrel walls, and its pepper detaches a few rougher splinters. The result is a greener, younger, resinous oak.

The palate is soft and deliciously jammy. The dried-fruit tannins, which had left their mark on the nose, blossom here to our delight. A few drops are all it takes to release the lovely concentration that only time can create. The woodiness is in the spotlight, complimented by the cane and its lovely pepper. The grain of the oak is fat and chewy.

The finish is richly and joyously spicy, with candied cane lingering on the palate.

"A lovely representative of very old agricultural rums, with the famous mellow woodiness of the Saint James house coming into full bloom..."
