Samaroli 1999 Trinidad is the second in the Carnival series.
This molasses rum is a blend of several 1999 distillates from Trinidad and Tobago. The rums in this blend have been aged in Scotland in a continental climate, after an initial ageing in a tropical climate.
The Samaroli trading house is renowned for its blends, but also for its reductions which it has mastered for many years. Here the degree is reduced to 50° before bottling.
This limited series produced 544 numbered bottles.
Nico's tasting notes
On the nose, the balance is effortless between a softly toasted, vanilla-flavored oak cask and a full-bodied, coppery, tar-patinated distillate. The latter expands and settles in comfortably, spreading a smoky atmosphere that will charm whisky lovers.
With aeration, the smoke subsides and harmony takes over. The rum takes on a thick fruit paste with a hint of dried, ashy meat, a surprising combination whose charm becomes obvious.
On the palate, the rum melts like a caramel filled with black cherry reduction, structured by a toasty woodiness whose melted tannins stretch into a slightly resinous sap. Complexity is the order of the day, as a gourmet taste of nuts splashed with citrus fruit takes hold, refreshing the palate while occupying it with a lovely sensation of maturity.
The finish continues on candied citrus peel, with a hint of brine and smoke.
"A lovely complexity and harmony that only time can create..."
