Samaroli Jamaica Hampden HLCF 2012 59.5°: Description and customer reviews

This Jamaica Hampden HLCF rum has been selected by spirits merchant Rhum des Vins Samaroli.

This rum was distilled in 2012 at the Hampden distillery, located in the parish of Trelawny, Jamaica.

Hampden Estate is a distillery renowned for its marks. This is a Hampden Light Continental Flavoured, or HLCF. This means that the ester content is between 500 and 700 g/hl of pure alcohol.

The selected cask was aged in Scotland and bears the number 10. It produced 239 numbered bottles.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose is swollen with a salad of exotic fruits with generous, velvety flesh, full of sugar and tropical notes. For connoisseurs of the Hampden distillery, we're in the presence of a very sweet, balanced expression, yet not devoid of aromatic concentration.

Aeration even turns our salad into syrup, with jackfruit coated in vanilla, sweet spices, diluted licorice and a few notes of English candy.

On the palate, the balanced character of this rum is confirmed, with an oily texture that coats the palate in the first moments, as if to reassure us of what's to come. And indeed, everything flows smoothly, from exotic fruit syrup to cherry pit, cane juice, almond milk, sage, molasses...

The finish is a little spicier and full-bodied, with some copper highlights and darker, roasted touches.

"A very smooth Hampden, perfectly tamed by ageing..."
