Packaged in the bottle that characterizes the distillery's aged rums, Savanna 7 ans traditionnel is the result of careful blending and perfectly controlled aging in Limousin oak barrels.
Tasting it promises to be a sensational experience, with an extraordinary aromatic bouquet revealed by the sunshine and humidity of the tropics. Reunion's climatic conditions accelerate the maturation of rum.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose of this traditional rum naturally opens with molasses, coffee, vanilla and dark caramel. There are roasted notes as well as burnt wood. The stage is set: black. The opening reveals a hint of green banana and olive, fruity and heavy aromas that give the whole a punch. But the fireplace and caramelized pecans are never far away. However, this is not a single-string rum, as fruit reappears, albeit in a different form: cooked banana, licorice, dried fruit (mango, papaya) and candied fruit (raisins).
Stirring the liquid rids it of a veil of solvent and furniture wax that ends up as honey. Spices are always well roasted. Accompanied by powdered nuts, they elegantly dress up the woodiness. The touch of heavy rum returns here and there to sustain a certain complexity.
The palate is simple, with vanilla and caramel. The balance is provided by smoky or burnt touches in the form of roasted almonds. Then there's a sudden shift to a vegetal range, with green wood and the bitterness of grape seeds. As for strength and texture, moderation is the order of the day.
On the finish, there's a metallic, plastic touch, often present in traditional Savanna rums. Young wood grips the palate, slightly burnt.
"A molasses rum that doesn't disguise itself, with staying power and enough presence on the palate..."
Thomas
A very enchanting floral nose, a fresh, easy palate that's almost disorientating for molasses.
