A traditional Creole drink once made for Christmas festivities, shrubb punch is made with orange peel. The Séverin distillery has added coffee beans to enrich the taste.
This shrubb punch is best served chilled, preferably as an aperitif.
Two medals at the Concours Général Agricole de Paris crowned Séverin's shrubb punch.
Nico's tasting notes
Summary: Orange - sweet - spices - citrus
The nose is powerfully orange. The orange is concentrated and imposing, as if in a cinnamon-spiked syrup. It gradually becomes fresher with bitter zest, then the whole peel of a very ripe orange that has been squeezed. Pineapple juice adds thickness and exoticism, along with a few spices and cane sugar.
With a little time and aeration, the acidic side of citrus emanates from the glass. The result is a fresh blend of lemon, orange and tangerine, as sweet as it is acidic, like squeezed juice. In some cases, it's very close to a lemon, making you think of a Daiquiri.
The first taste is very sweet, very thick, like a melting candy. Cinnamon, spices and vanilla come into their own here. They then leave the mouth with a rather natural orange zest.
Finishes with orange zest and a sweet sensation.
"This Shrubb is quite generous, it's a liqueur I'd recommend drinking with an ice cube..."
