Shack Rum Gold is a blend of rums from Barbados, Guatemala and Trinidad. What they have in common is that they have aged a minimum of 5 years in American oak barrels, and are traditional rums (i.e. made from molasses).
Nico's tasting notes
The nose of this blend is tinged with the influence of English-style rums. Immediately open and generous, it develops notes of vanilla wood and almond. It also offers a more full-bodied, dry and vegetal facet, with heady floral flights as well. There's a hint of encaustic wax, light and mellow. The overall profile is relatively simple and clear, with vanilla and bourbon-like woodiness. A touch of cane confirms the rum's exotic soul.
When the rum is poured over the sides of the glass, it expresses its full-bodied character. A hint of solvent, a toasty woodiness, and finally a buttery sensation with coconut, caramel and candied orange. The full-bodied notes have given way to a round, buttery feel, with the woodiness coated and imbibed.
The attack on the palate is frank, with toasted wood and licorice molasses. The palate goes straight to roasted nuts, dry and effective. Then the rum melts and spreads, coating the taste buds with warm notes of caramel and vanilla.
The finish leaves a memory of slightly alcoholic molasses.
"This well-balanced blend makes the most of each of its individual rums: it's round, but shows just the right amount of body and character...".

Colour: white wine
On the nose, this is a molasses rum. A rather discreet nose. Immediately, we inhale light notes of caramel and wood. Then vanilla, methylated spirits and a hint of popcorn make themselves felt.
On the palate, the rum is more seductive.
Vanilla, wood and caramel are easily detected.
Initially dry, with the woodiness, the rum becomes rounded on the finish. This evolution in the mouth makes the rum very pleasant, while creating an interesting balance.
The finish reveals cashew and licorice.
An interesting gold rum.
a little pricey, but its balance on the palate makes it worth a try.
