Worthy Park Special Casks Series is a collection of molasses rums distilled, aged and blended in the cellars of the Worthy Park distillery. The distillery is located in the parish of Saint Catherine. It is Jamaica's oldest distillery.
This rum was distilled in 2012 in the Forsyths double retort copper still, then aged for 10 years in the tropical climate.
The initial 8-year ageing was carried out in ex-bourbon American white oak barrels. The rum was then transferred to barrels that had previously contained calvados for a further 2 years. Total ageing is therefore 10 years.
8 barrels were blended and this rum was not chill-filtered before bottling in 2022.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose of this Jamaican rum is typical of its fruity, aromatic tradition, yet expresses itself rather delicately. Exotic fruits are diffused in a light, fairly fresh syrup, with slightly oxidized pears and apples reminiscent of cider.
With aeration, the woodiness enters the dance, with a few touches of melted tannins, which respond to a slightly resinous and above all pastry-like greediness. This is Worthy Park's trademark, with its banana bread and bitter almonds.
On the palate, the calvados barrel finish is evident from the outset. Tannic, fruity French oak takes the lead, encouraged by the flesh of a cooked, oxidized apple. Exotic fruits enter the scene, soaking up the freshness and acidity of the calvados, before gaining thickness and returning to their original shape.
The finish is gently spicy, slightly coppery, and lingers on a very pastry-like mellowness.
"A lovely marriage between Normandy and Jamaica...".
