Zacapa 23 La Armonia is part of the Heavenly Cask collection.
This is a blend of different rums aged from 6 to 23 years in the cellars of the Zacapa house, at 2300m altitude.
Cellar master Lorena Vasquez has decided to mature the wine in sherry casks to bring a certain harmony to the taste profile.
Nico's tasting notes
On the nose, we find the familiar, comfortable world of the house's rums. Enveloping and mellow, it's not short on aromas of vanilla, caramel and nuts, and here adds a touch of concentrated jam, skilfully measured out.
With aeration, this last, more powerful and intense note is completely integrated with the woody notes, which we imagine to be strongly toasted and therefore largely caramelized. This concentrated combination gives this cuvée a true "rum" identity.
The palate is very suave and enticing, with a well-rounded rum texture that glides smoothly over the palate without showing any resistance or alcohol spikes. The toasty woodiness unfolds into notes of caramelized nuts, vanilla and other sweet spices, always with a pronounced mellowness.
The finish is fine and fluid, and in this respect seems less round than one might have expected.
"A very smooth and mellow rum, which develops a very pleasant profile on the nose..."
Stephane Coucke
