Guillaume de Roany is the son of a winegrower who grew up in the vineyards. After studying business and communications, he quickly returned to his roots. He became a sommelier for a leading Bordeaux restaurant. It was here that he developed an interest in spirits, and rum in particular. Tasting a 1998 HSE was a revelation.

For a time, he reconciled his training with his passion, working as a sales agent for wineries. Then he decided to set up his own company. He offers consulting services to professionals, sells wines and spirits, and organizes auctions. After working in the rum business with Les Frères de la Côte, he came up with the idea of offering his own selections.

This led to a partnership with Les Rhums du Sud, from which the Guillaume de Roany Collection was born. The rums in this collection are all sourced locally, in the distilleries. Most were transported aboard the Blue Schooner Company's cargo ship De Gallant. In addition to the dynamic ageing benefits of this mode of transport, the ecological and responsible aspect is the driving force behind this approach.

The rums in the Guillaume de Roany Collection are independent bottlings, like the excellent Foursquare. But they can also be official bottlings, in collaboration with the distilleries, as is the case for Reimonenq's Cuvée Centenaire. Read less
