Mackmyra

Mackmyra, founded in 1999 by just 8 students, is Sweden's oldest whisky distillery. Today, it employs 50 people.

Its name literally translates as "swamp mosquito".

It has 2 stills and produces just over a million liters of pure alcohol a year.

It uses very small 30-liter casks (for short aging due to the high level of contact with the wood), as well as more traditional ex-sherry and ex-bourbon casks.

It produces both peated and unpeated whiskies.

A new distillery created in 2012 uses gravity to save energy.
