Mackmyra

Mackmyra, although only founded in 1999 by 8 students, is the oldest whisky distillery in Sweden. Today, 50 people work here.

Its name, literally, can be translated as "swamp mosquito".

It has 2 stills and produces just over one million litres of pure alcohol per year.

It uses very small 30-litre casks (short ageing period due to the high contact with the wood), but also more classic ex-sherry and ex-bourbon casks.

It produces both peated and unpeated whiskies.

A new distillery created in 2012 is based on the principle of gravity to save energy.

The distillery offers a permanent range, and limited editions. Read less
