1423 SBS Jamaica 2013 46° : Description and customer reviews

1423 SBS Jamaica 2013 is a traditional English rum from Jamaica's oldest distillery, Worthy Park. The rum was pot-still distilled and then rested in ex-Bourbon American oak barrels, initially to give it roundness. It was then matured in Brandy casks to extract its floral notes.

So, 8 years later, it was bottled without cold filtration in Denmark, in October 2021. This unique cask, selected by the Danish company, was used to fill 859 bottles.

Nico's tasting notes

The spicy, fruity nose of this rum is unmistakable: this is Jamaica. Starting with a full-bodied, powdery, almost coppery note, it then takes off towards a softer, more pastry-like horizon, on a cushion of bitter almond, cream and raisins.

The aeration insists on sweet spices and pastry, and the rum gradually takes the shape of a banana muffin just out of the oven, exhaling its notes of star anise, cinnamon, nutmeg, with a cup of coffee smoking nearby.

The palate is full-bodied and caramelized like that of a British Navy rum, with a typical coppery, oily edge. We also discover a handful of malty, heavily toasted cereals, this time pointing us to Scotland and its whisky. All this caramel and damp wood reminds us of "old-fashioned" rums, with their marked accents of tobacco and leather.

The finish opens with a little more pastry, with pits and old rancio.

"A very old-fashioned style of rum, which could surely be found on Navy ships..."
