Amrut Peated is a rich, intense peated Indian single malt aged in bourbon casks.
Due to environmental constraints, its peat is Scottish and comes fromIslay.
Our tasting note from Thomas
The nose is both punchy and superbly integrated. Peat reminds us of narghile charcoal, oily seaweed and vegetation-tinged wood smoke. Camphor, olive oil and eucalyptus soon emerge, while citrus cream and dark chocolate emerge.
Aeration brings out a more exotic side (fresh pineapple), fresh farmhouse cream, peanuts and galvanizes the chocolate cream. Peat becomes eminently flattering.
The palate is powerful and silky-textured. The peat is less smoky than on the nose, but camphor and seaweed are clearly present. Exotic fruits (pineapple), creamed chocolate and peanuts add a gourmet touch, making this a very accessible peaty.
The finish is still powerful, slightly more bitter (camphor, cut grass) despite the presence of chocolate and fruit (pineapple, oranges). Smoke finally returns to the palate with citrus creams.
" A generous, full-bodied peaty that demonstrates that India is a strong whisky nation..."
