The result of blending several traditional rums aged between 5 and 8 years, Angostura Butterfly 5 ans is a cuvée that draws its aromatic richness from the American oak barrels used for aging.
The bottle features the Priamus Poseidon, a butterfly native to the Pacific.
Nico's tasting notes
In brief: sweet - vanilla - caramel - floral - light - toasted wood
On the nose, the rum is soft and rather discreet. The toasted wood carries a small layer of dust, but hints at round notes of vanilla and caramel. Here and there, light floral notes emerge.
Aeration delivers more floral and light notes, the alcohol escapes and reveals a clear, simple woodiness. Red fruit and sugar syrup come together in a tangy grenadine, then the woodiness returns this time in the form of cereal toast. The concentrated caramel has nuances of meat juice.
The palate entry is very light and round, but the caramel quickly embraces the tongue and gradually reduces, tightening the taste buds. Toasted wood takes over, with a hint of spice.
The finish maintains a certain idea of simplicity, with vanilla and toasted wood.
