Barikenn Guyana single cask 2012 62,3° : Description and customer reviews

Barikenn Guyana single cask 2012 is a 10-year-old molasses rum produced in Guyana.

The rum was distilled in January 2012 in the famous Versailles (mark VSG) wooden pot still at the Diamond distillery. It then rested for 2.5 years in an ex-rum barrel in a tropical climate, followed by 7.5 years in a continental climate.

This unique cask was bottled without reduction. A total of 246 numbered bottles were released in March 2022.

Nico's tasting notes

At first, the nose is relatively light, just long enough for the first, more ethereal, floral notes to make their way to the top of the glass. We then plunge quickly into the heart of a full-bodied, complex rum, both vegetal and fruity, which also carries a certain coppery character.

With aeration, this coppery side gradually transforms into a pastry-like register of cherry pits, raisins and thick-skinned, almost tannic prunes. The spices, for their part, then lead us towards a more vegetal profile, with a hint of iodine that might recall a few black olives surrounded by pepper.

The palate is very enveloping yet intense, with a sensation of warm copper that sharpens the palate while bringing an impression of light. Once the introductions have been made, the rum's complexity unfolds in pastry notes, then in iodized, spicy molasses that tinkles with black olives while carrying off a good handful of caramel-coated nuts.

The finish is greedy, and continues to detail molasses as well as wood in flavors of licorice, honey, sweet spices and resinous vegetation.

"A complex rum that constantly shows different facets, from the most gourmand to the most intense..."
