Benromach Peat Smoke Bourbon is a Speyside single malt scotch whisky from the 2012 vintage.
It has 2 distinctive features:
- the use of highly peated malted barley at 55ppm
- aged entirely in first-fill bourbon barrels.
This contrasts with the rest of the range, which generally combines ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks.

Benromach definitely has more than one string to his bow! The peat, which is quite powerful at the beginning, becomes more subtle as it aerates, both on the nose and on the palate. Fairly dry finish on spices, which gradually fade away to give way again to a fine and delicate peat. Great !
