Gray Rod Connecting Rod 59°: Description and customer reviews

This white rum comes from a single variety of cane native to Barbados. Its main characteristic is slow growth, which means it does not suffer from the dry climate of Marie-Galante, where it grows alongside the Bielle distillery.
This variety of cane gives the rum it produces a lively, fruity character.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose of this rum is powerful and vegetal. It's also quite dry, with something dusty about it that makes it hard to approach at first. It's earthy, rustic, with a strong bitterness. What character! One thinks of rough wood, straw, even a bundle of dry, brittle branches.
Aeration will continue to show a powerful, vegetal rum, the opposite of other flattering, suave eaux-de-vie. The alcohol keeps the boiler burning, burning bagasse and straw. The floor is always covered with raw wood bark and dry hay. With time, a breath of menthol soothes the nose a little. Further on, a hint of gray pepper, accompanied by licorice, the rum seems to offer a truce.

The palate is lively and tormented, agitated by an earthy, dusty, vegetal whirlwind. This tornado, however, comes with a certain generosity, carrying with it swollen, ripe fruit that creates a suave texture. The vegetal side is herbaceous and fresh, while the rum maintains its lively, acidic breath, always fiery of course. The finish becomes rounder and rounder. You've just been on one hell of a journey, not very restful, but authentic.

The finish is true to the rum's overall rusticity, with pepper and bagasse flavors.

A must-have! Excellent value for money. Don't hesitate to enjoy it neat.

For me, olfactory notes of button mushroom, plaster and dust. It reminds me of the first rains after a dry spell, or the holes I patch in the walls.
The taste isn't very expressive, rather round, a little cold, vegetal, a little ferrous (like the taste of blood) and, of course, cane juice.
It doesn't sell, but it's not disgusting.
