Botran Cobre is a rum made from cane honey and distilled in a copper still in the presence of 4 different spices(clove, ginger, cinnamon, cardamom). This is where it gets its name "Cobre", which means "copper" in Spanish.
The resulting rum is then aged in solera. The oldest rums in the blend, kept in barrels that previously contained Port, are 20 years old.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is extremely surprising, dusting off the style to our great delight. It's dominated by a spice we're familiar with, but which isn't usually given as much prominence: cardamom. This rum therefore emanates great freshness, with clove adding depth.
The palate seems balanced, a far cry from the very sweet spiced rums we come across. The spices still call for freshness, with the vegetal side of cardamom and the warmth of ginger, and then the clove, which once again adds its little something extra.
The finish gives way to cinnamon, for a pastry and gourmet touch.
"An original, fresh spiced, without the heaviness of sugar. It will work wonders in cocktails..."
