This Jamaican rum was distilled from molasses in 2009. It comes from Hampden Estate in the province of Trelawny.
It aged in American oak barrels for 5 years before being sent to England to the Bristol Spirits Ltd cellars.
Aging continued until 2021 to reach a total of 12 years. It was then bottled at 47.5°.
This cuvée has not been chill-filtered and no additions have been made.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is immediately assailed by an intoxicating solvent, filled with heady flowers and above all exotic fruits that are more than ripe. A certain acidity emerges, softened by ageing which has allowed it to oxygenate, smoothing out its livelier aspects over time.
With aeration, the aromatic power is multiplied, and exotic fruits like jackfruit soon invade the whole room. A hint of spice adds texture, while the solvent continues to soar with notes of red fruit sorbet.
The palate is very smooth and fluid, which contrasts somewhat with the extreme concentration of the distillate. The distillate obviously rises above the wood, which nonetheless manages to introduce a few discreet notes of gingerbread. The acidity of very ripe exotic fruit appears briefly but firmly, but is immediately diluted by the rum's fluidity.
The finish is naturally very long, and just a few drops are enough to enjoy this molasses with its hints of jackfruit and flowery solvent.
"A significant reduction, allowing us to deconstruct this monster of esters in complete relaxation..."
