Citadelle Rouge is a Distilled Dry Gin that joined the permanent Citadelle range in 2023. It is made by the Ferrand cognac house from the Citadelle Original gin recipe. In addition to spring water and wheat, the 19 botanicals are rhubarb, cranberry, raspberry, blackcurrant and blackberry.
The fruit is infused slowly to maintain the aroma profile of Citadelle gin.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is very invigorating and delightfully fresh, with resinous juniper berries, as well as a sweet and fruity sweetness which brings fondness and therefore balance. The few exotic pepper berries continue to add color.
Aeration evacuates the sharpest notes of the juniper berry, so that we only devote ourselves to the sweetness of crushed red fruits, with a very sweet yellow lemon which brings its rays of sunshine.
In the mouth , the ripe red fruits are diluted like in a grenadine syrup. We taste a very fragrant, round candy, full of deliciousness. The juniper berry and the bitterness of the citrus zest provide slight support, but it is indeed the marshmallows and rose petals laden with red fruits that lead the way.
The finish is also round, still on red fruit candy enhanced with a hint of spices.
