Damoiseau 10 ans is an agricultural rum from Guadeloupe released to mark the new millennium (it is a 2001 vintage). It has been aged for many years in 180-liter oak casks. The latter had previously contained bourbon.
The result is a mature, complex rum that's perfect for tasting, preferably as a digestive.
Nico's tasting notes
On the nose, we don't necessarily find the candied, pastry-like character of Guadeloupe rums. Here, it's more like a little honeyed grenadine. The nose is light and floral, but also round, with peach and a greedy, vinous side that's reminiscent of Cabernet d'Anjou rosé. There's a hint of red fruit bursting with sugar, and also a touch of cinnamon. There's still an impression of grenadine with cane sugar, which could also bring to mind red fruit candies. The rum then opens up to develop fragrant exotic fruit aromas (passion fruit, mango...).
Aeration reinforces these exotic fruits, which now express themselves powerfully. The cane is boosted, over-vitaminized and tangy. The nose of this rum is heady, but with a little more attention, you can distinguish a few notes of yeast, bread dough and something milky.
On the palate, it's as exuberant as ever, almost too much so, to the point of taking one's breath away. The palate is faithful to the nose, with gourmet cane and an almost liquorish quality. The orange detaches itself a little from the red fruit, and vanilla occupies the palate before the rum glides to its finish.
The finish is soft, with a vanilla cane confection.
"This astonishing rum is extremely gourmet, and I'd recommend enjoying it slightly chilled..."

More interesting than Damoiseau's 3, 5 or 8 year olds (which are a little short in the mouth), the pleasure here is quite different. A real treat!
