Don Q Oak Barrel Spiced is a spiced rum from Puerto Rico. It is produced at the Serrallés distillery, one of the island's great names in terms of both quality and quantity. Its director is particularly attentive to the environmental impact of his production.
The rums used for this blend are between 3 and 6 years old. They were blended and then placed in American white oak barrels, where they were infused with various spices and natural aromas.
It's ideal for cocktails, but its richness means it can also be enjoyed neat, on the rocks.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose reveals a rather light rum, framed by a rather heavily burned oak barrel. Roasted aromas of coffee and charcoal emerge, gradually relaxing into caramel. When the fire is finally extinguished, vanilla takes center stage. It brings light and airiness, and is soon joined by other spices such as nutmeg, cinnamon and a hint of cola.
The palate is round and gently spicy, with a charred woodiness that cuts a roasted facet, on coffee and scorched spices. The more gourmand, pastry-like spices then settle in quietly.
"A light and balanced spiced, between sweetness, spices and roasting..."

Received as a sample. I enjoyed tasting it and, for €40 a bottle, it seems quite decent, finer than a Diplomatico, for example, at the same price.
