Flor De Caña 14 years is a molasses rum, distilled and aged by one of the greatest representatives of the Latin American style. This Nicaraguan family business has now been operating for 5 generations. It is increasingly aware of its social and environmental impact, and was rewarded for its efforts by obtaining Fair Trade certification in 2017. In addition, it now operates solely on renewable energy.
This rum was distilled in a multi-column complex which produces rather light distillates. It is a 14 year ageing process, 100% tropical, in old bourbon barrels, which gives it all the complexity and depth of a very old rum.
Nico's tasting note
On the nose, we discover a rum that is both dry and caramelised, which immediately plays the roasting card. The roasted nuts have taken on an air of charcoal and coffee grounds, but they gain in heat and spice with time.
The aeration gives way to more spices. The palette diversifies, colours and blends, to arrive at a rather elegant and intense bouquet. The hardest and burnt sides of the roasting have disappeared in this rum which is now more melted and supple.
The palate offers a balanced attack, which nevertheless leans towards the roundness. Some slightly spicy spices introduce a roasted mid-palate of nuts, coffee, toasted wood and molasses.
The finish opens up with more deliciousness, with more caramelised and sticky nuts.
"A rum faithful to the tradition of Flor de Caña, with a little extra smoothness and roundness..."

Very good but I prefer the 12 year old.
