Glenfiddich 15 year old solera is a single malt Scotch whisky. Glenfiddich is still one of the few single malt distilleries to be entirely family-owned.
For this 15-year-old whisky, cellar master Brian Kinsman has devised a very special aging process. This single malt is aged in three different casks: sherry, bourbon and new oak. It is then transferred to a handcrafted Oregon pine cask. This vat is never emptied completely, but remains half-filled with whiskies at least 15 years old, hence the term "solera" borrowed from Spanish aging. The different vintages of this expression age here and blend harmoniously.
Before bottling, a final run is made in large-capacity Portuguese oak barrels to complete the blending.
