Hidden Loot Dark Reserve is a spiced rum produced by the Naud family. This line of distillers has been established in the Cognac region since 1923. The original idea was to collaborate with a distillery in Panama, which supplied a molasses rum aged for 2 years. The Naud family then applies a maceration of 10 spices and fruits. These include tonka bean, bird's eye chili, orange bigarade and vanilla. Sweet orange, coconut, nutmeg and cinnamon are also included.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is a huge candy of butterscotch and sweet spices. We go for a moment to Brazil, with the amburana wood which delivers typical aromas of tonka bean, then we pick up some cinnamon bark and some coconuts along the way, before rolling in nutmeg and vanilla.
The mouth is round and sweet like a candy floss that melts in the mouth. This treat is accompanied by a spicy cola, where vanilla, nutmeg, and coconut flourish. In the length, the coconut develops and invites us to a piña colada twisted with tonka bean.
“A well-assembled recipe that allows us to discover each spice in a gentle sequence…”
