Mhoba Strand 101 is a rum distilled directly from the pure juice of Nkomazi sugar cane. These are grown on the estate of the South African artisan distillery. It is a blend of Mhoba Select Reserve Glass Cask and Mhoba Pot Stilled High Ester.
The entire production process is carried out on site, on the outskirts of the small farming town of Malelane, from the planting of organic sugar cane to the hand-filling and labeling of the bottles. The rum is fermented with local yeasts and distilled in custom-built iron stills.
Yoann's tasting notes
The nose goes straight into a register carried by the bourbon barrel. The caramel accompanied by a vanilla crème brûlée coming out of the oven tickles our nostrils. A handful of nuts is there. Rather elegant woody notes appear with this gourmet nose. A varnish appears timidly with a little solvent side. The coconut remains hidden in the background.
The entry in the mouth is fluid and the rum coats the palate for our greatest pleasure. The attack is greedy with the caramel that we find. The vanilla is always creamy and sprinkled with small pieces of nuts. Spices like pepper are there. The woodiness remains subtle and elegant and does not take up too much space.
With a little time, fresh and herbaceous notes, carried by pepper, appear.
The finish of this rum is medium long and carried by the freshness and the herbaceous side. The caramel accompanied by the vanilla watches over all these little people by making an act of presence.
