Mhoba Strand 101 is a pure South African cane juice rum. It is a blend of Mhoba Select Reserve Glass Cask and Mhoba Pot Stilled High Ester.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is typical of the Mhoba profile, which is now easily recognizable. It is perhaps even more marked by the solvent than usual, and unequivocally evokes strong glue. At this point, there's no mistaking that this is a pure cane juice rum, and we're definitely leaning towards a big Jamaican rum.
Aeration reveals a round bubble that swells like a soft marshmallow. It seems to be the cane and its sweet juice that are expressing themselves, with the suppleness of the same confectionery. The solvent is now more akin to an encaustic on an old piece of furniture, all the more so as it mingles with greasy beeswax.
The palate is simply delicious. Forget solvent and glue, this is a sugar cane of infinite roundness and deliciousness. Its mellow, caramelized juice becomes marron glacé, butterscotch, coconut milk, milk jam... The white wood is melted to the extreme and develops notes of vanilla tobacco, then a few licorice touches make us salivate again.
The finish is generously and roundly woody, the oak imbued with fresh cane once again irresistible.
"A superb expression of Mhoba, with a nose as imposing as ever, but a mouth that would melt anyone..."
EBERT Marie-Agnès
Delicious! Delicious and sweet.

Lots of character, dry and fruity, long finish, I like this rum for a mouthful with bite ...

Not bad, but I much prefer the glass reserve from this distillery.
