Nico's tasting notes
Summary: citrus - vanilla - sweet spices
The nose of this spiced rum is initially marked by citrus fruits, particularly yellow lemon. It's spicy, of course, but in a gentle way - the spices don't dominate at the moment. The woodiness is smoky, even reminiscent of an open fire. It has a powdery feel, which we imagine comes from the charcoal aspect of the wood fire, or simply from the ground spices. There's also a candy-like, powdery feel, like a marshmallow. Citrus fruits are still present, with grapefruit coming to mind.
On aeration, the spices take flight and emerge abundantly from the glass: nutmeg, cardamom, clove, pepper, the blend is quite rich. Vanilla provides the sweet part of the spices, round and set in a cane sugar syrup.
On the palate, vanilla sets the tone for the rum. It's soft, smooth and rather fatty. It is also tangy and spicy, the two characters balancing and complementing each other. Cinnamon and orange zest are aromatic and bring a certain warmth, while lemon is a sweet-spiced syrup.
The finish is light, with vanilla continuing to spread its sweetness.
