Père Labat Clos parcellaire Les Mangles is a white agricultural rum from the island of Marie-Galante, Guadeloupe.
This single-plot rum comes from the north of the Poisson distillery property, protected by the topography which benefits from good sunshine and good ventilation. The purple cane from this plot is cut by hand and transported to the distillery where an 80-hour fermentation is carried out from the vesou. The cane wine obtained is distilled in a copper Creole column to come out at 70.7° before being reduced to 53°.
This rum is bottled on site in a limited edition of 3024. Each bottle is numbered.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose opens with a concentrated green cane, bringing in its wake a flurry of exotic fruits such as mango and papaya, also still green. This chlorophyllic ambience takes us back to fresh herbs and a touch of olive in brine.
With aeration, the wild, fermentative side develops, reminiscent of the most natural cane eaux-de-vie, such as clairin d'Haïti. Vegetal spices mingle with resinous aromatics and candied, sweet olives.
The palate is full of character, with deeply aromatic, highly fermented cane juice. After a veil of copper and a very light curtain of smoke, spices and chillies assault the palate, before wrapping themselves around the taste buds. The cane becomes more oily, but as concentrated as ever.
The finish retains its wild, authentic character, and the olive in brine and fresh licorice come to the fore.
"A very wild rhum agricole that goes so far as to recall the clairins of Haiti..."

A novelty for me and I was a little disappointed, but that's very personal.

The main aroma, both on the nose and in the mouth, is fermented with a hint of vinegar, making it very special. No sweet or gourmand flavor. I didn't expect that from a Marie-Galante rum.
